Kirkwood Global Advantage Scholarship

Did you know over 85% of Kirkwood students receive a scholarship to help them study abroad?  All Kirkwood full-time or part-time degree seeking students are eligible to apply for a Global Advantage Scholarship to participate in a Kirkwood Study Abroad Program. Scholarships amounts are:

$1,000 for short-term programs $1,500 for Global Education Network programs $2,000 for semester programs


Personal essay (completed online with your study abroad application)  2.5 Cumulative GPA 
Two electronic faculty recommendation forms Completed study abroad application/Selected into program

To be eligible you must be a full-time or part-time degree seeking student at Kirkwood. You must be enrolled the semester prior to the program dates. Alumni are not eligible for scholarships unless the program falls immediately after the last term-that person was enrolled at Kirkwood

Gilman Scholarship:

Gilman Info Sessions for 2018-2019: Gilman Kirkwood 

The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards to U.S. undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

  • The applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad program.
  • The applicant is studying  abroad for at least or two weeks (14 days) for current community college students - and no more than one academic year.

Chris and Suzy DeWolf Family Study Abroad Scholarship

One $2,000 scholarship is available to a student who meets all the criteria for the Global Advantage Scholarship. In addition, the student must be a graduate of a high school in Linn County, Iowa with preference for Cedar Rapids Community School District graduates. Selection is made in the Spring Semester. All selected study abroad students who meet criteria are considered.
